  History Of St. Andrew's Church

St. Andrew’s Church, a Presbyterian church at Bangalore, located on the Cubbon road is of a massive orthodoxical Presbyterian Scottish architecture, with a tall belfry and chiming clock at the apex of its tower, bearing its name after the patron saint of Scotland, St. Andrew. The foundation stone for this magnificent structure was laid on Nov. 22, 1864 by Lady Grant, wife of Lieutenant-General, Sir Hope Grant, the then Quartermaster-General of Her Majesty’s Forces and the building was completed and opened for Divine worship on Nov. 18,1866 with in a period of two years at an overall cost of Rs. 45000/- including the land.

The dedication sermon was preached by the Rev. Stewart Wright, one of the then chaplains of the Church of Scotland in the Madras Presidency, and pastor in charge of  the newly formed congregation.

St. Andrew's Agape Emergency Fund

We sincerely thank each one of you for your prayers and support for St. Andrew's Agape Emergency Fund. Agape meaning God's Love, is "Sharing and Thinking of the Other in Love." Sharing God's love can make a difference in our lives and more so in the lives of others.

This initiative is a simple and practical approach to journey with people by sharing a Grocery Packet worth Rs 1000/- (discounted), which can sustain a small family for about a month. I can share with confidence that it has helped families who have lost their jobs and the elderly in need, to quietly sustain and preserve life. We have completed the 3rd Phase.

In view of the Second Wave of the Pandemic, the Pastorate Committee has resolved to enter the 4th Phase in faith and love.

The Pastorate Committee which met on the 21st of May 2021 has also resolved to join the efforts to support the initiative of our Diocese, the KCD Covid Care @ CSI Hospitals. It is our prayer that the intended 140 beds at CSI Hospitals here in Bangalore and at Chikkaballapur, will add to the efforts to save human lives. We will add Covid Care @ CSI Hospitals as a Category of support in the 4th Phase of St. Andrew's Agape Emergency Fund.

The updated Listis as follows:

  • St. Andrew' School Community at Siddapura

  • Workers at the Indian Christian Cemetery, Hosur Road

  • Brothers and Sisters at Tubagere

  • Members in need at St. Andrew's Church

  • Sexton and Contract Staff of our Church

  • Neighbourhood in need (Anyone who needs help, with proper verification will be supported)

Added Category:

  • KCD Covid Care @ CSI Hospitals

Please feel free to contact us for any support or clarification. To contribute towards the AGAPE Emergency Fund please refer to the details on page 5 in this Newsletter.

As a Leadership Team, we are committed to transparency, and the details will be shared once we complete the 4th Phase.
